Free Pregnancy Tests
Suspecting you are pregnant when it is unintended can be a stressful experience. Taking an accurate and reliable pregnancy test eliminates uncertainty and alleviates anxiety. PPSS provides free pregnancy tests that can be taken privately at our centre, and are most often overseen by one of our registered nurses.
What is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG)?
Our medical-grade tests use urine to check for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your body. HCG is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy, helping to thicken the uterine lining to support an embryo’s growth. Levels of hCG rise after conception and reach its peak at about 10 weeks of pregnancy.

Our caring, knowledgeable, and honest staff are here to support you and provide accurate and reliable information on pregnancy, parenting, adoption, and abortion so you can explore your options and ultimately make informed decisions that are right for you.
Testing at Home
At-home pregnancy tests can be purchased at pharmacies or department stores. They are not medical-grade tests like the ones offered at PPSS but can be very accurate.
At-home tests also check for levels of hCG in your urine. If testing at home, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Always read the test directions carefully before taking a test.
- 10 days after conception will yield the most accurate results.
- First thing in the morning is the ideal time to test – it is when your hCG levels are most concentrated.
- Don’t drink a lot of liquid before taking a test.
- Tests are not always accurate. Consult a health care professional to verify your results.
